Thorough pre-surgical examination is a precondition for a successful laser procedure:
- The examination provides a complete overview of the condition of your eyes.
- In the course of the first contact, it is determined whether and to what extent it is possible to treat your refractive error with laser surgery
- After the exam, the doctor chooses the laser surgery which is best suited for you and provides a thorough overview of the procedure.
- You are also given reading material which you have to get acquainted with before the surgery.
- You and the doctor together pick a suitable time for performing the laser surgery.
Important details to remember about the pre-surgical examination:
- It is not allowed to wear contact lenses for two days before the pre-surgical examination
- We use eye drops to dilate the pupil in the course of the initial exam, as a result of which the visual acuity is disturbed until later in the evening. It is not recommended to drive during this period!
You will undergo the following procedures during the preoperative investigation:
- Determination of refraction (UCVA, BCVA) both when looking at far and close distance
- Keratometry
- Determination of dominant eye (monovision or postoperative change of dominant eye)
- Bagolini binocular test
- The corneal topography
- The corneal pachymetric chart
- Wavefront analysis
- Measurement of pupils at different light intensity
- Contrast sensitivity test
- Dry eye test (PRT test)
- Tonometry
- Cycloplegic refraction
- Investigation of eyes (FAG, if necessary; OCT)
- Additional investigations for diagnosing eye diseases, if necessary
