Reminder for patients

Here you will find important information and instructions that will help you prepare for the day of laser surgery.

Before and after surgery

At the pre-operative examination, you will be given eyedrops that dilate the pupils – please do not drive yourself to the appointment!

Contact lenses

Do not wear contact lenses for 10 days before the surgery to avoid corneal damage.

Cosmetics

Using cosmetics or perfumes is prohibited on the day of the surgery.

Clothing

Dress comfortably on the day of the surgery. Do not wear a hooded sweatshirt or woollen sweater. If you have long hair, put it up with a hair tie.

Medications

On the day of the surgery, the doctor will issue a digital prescription for antibiotic eyedrops to be used from the first day after the surgery.

Arrival

You must arrive 15 minutes before the agreed time. The entire procedure will take approximately two hours for the patient.

Bring along

A signed healthcare service contract and a completed medical history (if not previously digitally signed and submitted).

Going home after the surgery

After laser surgery, you must not drive or use public transport. If possible, ask someone to pick you up or order a taxi.

Follow up

The first three mandatory post-operative eye examinations are free of charge for the patient. The first examination takes place on the first day after surgery, the second after one month and the third after one year.

After LASIK surgery

On the day of the surgery, you will need to use artificial tears every hour until going to bed, as instructed by your doctor. The eyedrops must be dripped by touching only the lower eyelid, and dripping the medication into your eye from above, so that at least one drop enters the eyes. You should also avoid touching the operated eye(s). It is not advisable to read, use a computer or drive a car on the day of the surgery. After the surgery, you will need to wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from bright light and from objects getting into them. We will gift the patient a pair of high-quality sunglasses after the surgery!

The first seven days after the surgery

  • Tucressa eyedrops four times a day.
  • Using artificial tears alternating with anti-inflammatory eyedrops at least five times a day. Leave at least 10 minutes between the different eyedrops so that one does not wash out the other.
  • Eye rubbing is prohibited, and it is recommended not to use cosmetics (including face cream) for five days after the operation.

From the second post-operative week onwards

  • For the first three months, use artificial tears at least three to five times a day.
  • You can stop using anti-inflammatory eyedrops, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

What not to do after surgery

  • Do not visit a sauna or steam room within the first month.
  • Do not swim in a pool within the first month.
  • Do not use cosmetics for five days after the surgery or see a beautician for at least three weeks after the surgery.
  • Do not perform high-intensity physical exercises (aerobics is allowed, avoid getting sweat in the eye) for one week.
  • Avoid direct blows to the eye (wear protective goggles when playing contact sports or ball games).
  • Do not visit a solarium for three weeks after the surgery. After that, you must use artificial tears before the procedure.
